Sven Behnke, Professor for Autonomous Intelligent Systems at the University of Bonn and Principal Investigator in PhenoRob, has received a 2019 Amazon Research Award.
It is already the third consecutive reward in support of his research on perception of complex bin picking scenes. This year’s project Learning Structured Scene Modeling and Physics-Based Prediction for Manipulation goes beyond passive observation of static scenes. Models of the effects of a robotic manipulator arm will be learned and used to maintain the structured scene model while the robot is manipulating.
The Amazon Research Award is a grant program which supports academic researchers in the areas of computer vision, artificial intelligence and robotics. Sven Behnke is the only recipient of the 2019 award from a German institution.
